7:30 pm – 1 am
SPJST Lodge • 1435 Beall Street • Houston, TX 77008
Kindred Spirits is more than the name of the nightclub “for women and their friends” founded in 1980 in Houston by Marion Coleman.
The nightclub also acted as a sort of community center for Houston’s lesbians and gay men until its closing in 1989, hosting organizational meetings, political fundraisers, theatrical presentations and even blood drives as the AIDS crisis hit Houston. In 2002, she and a core group of committee members began presenting an annual reunion dance commemorating the “spirit” of the club. It, as well as other popular events, has raised more than $100,000 for its beneficiaries.
In 2010, Kindred Spirits celebrates the 30th anniversary of the opening of that legendary nightclub with a weeklong schedule of diverse events guaranteed to knock your socks off.
